LIVING GALLERY

LIVING GALLERY
Living Gallery is the staging of the process of fantasy, in which each individual is simultaneously author, actor and director. Consciously or unconsciously we spend the majority of our life imagining, through images projected on the moving screen of our thoughts a number of scenarios unfold, scenarios in which we play both the leading role and all the other secondary roles as well. I like most people have a thousand different fantasies that will never actually happen. But when I think about my ultimate fantasy, I realize that it’s really quite simple: to grow old without losing my capacity to dream. Because between the “me” of today and the “me” of tomorrow - in 40 or 45 years - everything will most likely have changed. What then could be the one thing that will remain unchanged in spite of the 40 years separating my two selves: the waking dream, the very human capacity to fantasize about one’s life.
LA POÉTIQUE DE L'AUTRE
La Poétique de l’Autre is a timeless and surrealist voyage inscribed in the continuity of Living Gallery. Presented successively, these performances reflect upon and respond to each other, like the front and backside of a shared notion of identity and its phantasms. While Living Gallery plunges the spectator into a vast black mental space in which the majority of the images appear on a screen, La poetique de l’Autre happens on the other side of the screen, in an entirely white, frontal space in which silicon masks come strangely to life. La Poétique de l’Autre is the staging of an eventual dialogue that spans time and space, between two versions of me separated by 40 years of age. On the stage two actresses wear, respectively, a young and an old mask. Through this double presence they recount a story (or stories) about a life, a person, a character, or the different personalities within one person. We’re never sure who is dreaming of whom. Is the young “me” dreaming about being older or vice versa? Whatever the case, each one would seem to dream of the other or of being together, as they perform a series of tableaux in which a number of fundamental themes are explored: happiness, love, sex, adventure, power, success, failure and death.
